Al Stein's Genealogical Research Concerning Caslav
I have been asked, "In researching the names Seideman, Steiner, and Lustig, what information are you seeking? Do you have their first names?"
Yes, but I can not pair all of the given names with the family names:
Tantes: Anna, Helen, Ella, Paula
Uncles: Gustav, Singer, Theodore; Rudolf LUSTIG;
Tante Sophie and Dr. Alois LUSTIG in Wien.
All of these were alive in 1933 and probably all died in the Holocaust. (Yes, there was a Red Cross search, but it was negative). Most of these people I know of, only by first names. However, Jewish family given names have a way of popping up like mushrooms. I am hoping that burial and/or marriage lists will help pair them up. I expect that Uncle Max STEINER who was 82 in 1933, and Great-aunt Josefine Pick LUSTIG will be found in the cemetery.
This is about the 3 people who accepted Ignatz SEIDEMAN'S sponsorship offer.
Eric LUSTIG may not be a close relative, but the surname LUSTIG is within the family. He may have been related to Dr. Alois Lustig of Vienna (Wein).
He arrived shortly before the Nazis closed the borders, in about 1939. He was probably in his 30's, and surprisingly, he spoke excellent Oxford English. He legally Americanized his name to (it sounded like) 'Lynn', maybe spelled Linn or Lind. Initially he settled in the New York City area.The other 2 people, Ernst and Szdenca SCHNEIDER, arrived about the same time as Eric. I remember that they had a young boy. At one time they lived at: 652 W 163rd Street, New York, NY 10032. In the 1940s and 50s, they also lived and may have owned property: Lake Front Road Box 189 RD#2, Putnam Valley, NY; Phone 914-526-2705Then there are the PICKs. Traveling as a U.S citizen, on 9/14/1922, Emil Pick, born 1881, the brother of Josephine Pick Lustig, returned to his Brooklyn, NY home at 2269 Kennax Place with his wife, Katherin and children, Tim and Martha , ages 9 & 8 respectively. They traveled under a U.S. passport #175349 issued in Washington. An urn of his remains was buried in the Caslav Cemetery on 24/5/1948. This cemetery has other plots reserved in the PICK name.There must be living descendants of the people mentioned above who would like to talk about their ancestors and mine.
